Beauty in the Night

Can we all just take a second to appreciate the night? I know that humans are supposed to go to sleep with the bright orb of exploding hydrogen, but I really have a penchant for the midnight skies. Not to be poetic on purpose or anything (those guys are insane).

But I love the deepness of the dark blues and purples and blacks, all swirling together in perfect, harmonious unity. I love the way the dew makes the grass damp and sweet with setting sun. I love the way the moon shifts and sways through the seasons. I love the night.

The night is a vast labyrinth in which enigmatic tangles of stars roost, exotic galaxies nestle, and over which the alluring silver orb hangs.

For realsies though, I love the night. That’s why I failed all my tests in High School, I was always up late studying the sky. *winky face emoji*. But seriously, no one wants to make out in their car with the sun busting up the party. We don’t share our darkest secrets when the light can find us, and we certainly would never bust out laughing because we’re eating pizza unless it’s after 10 pm. It has to be dark to be stupid happy.

Think back on your life, how many of your happiest memories occurred during the dark hours? How many more great things will happen whilst (sorry, I had to, love that word) the yellow star warms the other side of the world?

My favorite painting (yes, people have those) is of the night, the way Van Gogh saw it, the way I want to see it: Colorful, full of life, and movement, and so so much beauty.

Besides, the night is one of the most uniquely brilliant metaphors in existence. The night is dark, yea. We’ll go through patches of our lives that are equally dark. Heck, I’ve gone through years of night, and the sun’s hasn’t even reached far past the horizon on my life yet.

But these times will pass. We’re going to be okay. And you know? Even in the darkest bits of the early morning, there is still immense beauty in the world. Yea, the sky is covered by midnight, and yet there is still so much to wonder at.

So, for those of you out there going through your own nights, let me just say, It will end. I know it feels like it won’t, but it will. Meanwhile, I know that you’re hopeless, down, depressed, grieving, and broken. But No Matter What:

Always Find the Beauty in the Night.
Chiaroscuro Out.
