Hello Internet!

I’m one of the three current authors on this blog. Hopefully, we’ll be posting about four times a week from here on out, although no promises! All three of us have a lot going on in our lives.
Personally, I hope to make this blog a place for colorful ideas, mundane conundrums, unique perspectives, and explosive imaginations. If you guys leave comments (if there is actually anybody reading this) I will try and get back to you quickly. Once again, not promising anything!

This week’s post is supposed to provide you with a little introduction to who we are as authors, and what we’re trying to accomplish here exactly. Clearly, I am using a pseudonym (I hope that was obvious), Chiaroscuro Sun certainly isn’t an average name. "Chiaroscuro" (for those of you who don’t know) is a term used to describe the relationship between light and dark used in paintings. An example? Look no further than Rembrandt, an artist known for how he manipulated the light and shadows in his work.

I chose the term “chiaroscuro” because that same relationship between light and dark is exactly what I witness in everyday life. Morality is rarely an easy, clear, black-white scenario. Life does not lend itself to simplifications and generalizations. Rather, we exist in a realm between the two, and what we observe in the interactions of humans every day are, in a way, chiaroscuro. Uneven light falling across our lives. Shadows mixed in among the dappled sunlit streets.
Chiaroscuro is an art term, but in a way I believe that completes the metaphor. I love art, and I believe that in many factions of life, we ourselves are pieces of art. The way we live, and move, and act, are strokes on our canvass of life, our story told through colors and illuminations.

Once we understand that this is the nature of our world, we can begin to undo some of the pain and hurt we observe in the people around us. We can lessen the suffering of our fellow humans. That’s really what we want to do, lessen suffering and bring relief. If we can do that with our words, if we can give you a whole new perspective on the world, help you to realize something about yourself, or reality, or truth, then we’ll have accomplished something great.

We want to make your world a little less vapid, a little more, how shall I say....purple? Together, we’ll add a splash of color to the splotches of light and dapples of shadow in your life.

Don't worry, my post will be a tad bit lighter next time. :)
